Simply a Disappointment

Under other circumstances, I may have thought "A Simple Plan" was a decent movie. However, having just read the book (written by Scott B. Smith), I was very disappointed. The movie began well, but then made several changes to the plot. These changes altered the story in a significant way that only detracted. Most specifically, the interplay between the two brothers was damaged badly. I watched the movie with three other people, who had also just finished the book. The consensus among us: what were they thinking?
