Oscar Weekend - Documentaries

Plan A: We were going to rent all of the Oscar nominated documentary features for 2007 and have a movie marathon leading up to the Oscar ceremony. Then we discovered that would entail two about Iraq, one priest pedophile, one global warming and one about psycho Christians... DEPRESSING!

Plan B: Instead we rented "An Inconvenient Truth" and "March of the Penguins." A 2007 nominee, and the 2006 winner, which we hoped would be a little less depressing.

"An Inconvenient Truth" had a powerful message, and was generally well done. Oddly, the story about how the hole in the ozone was successfully repaired actually was inspiring to the point of making it seem like the global warming problem was not beyond hope. The most depressing part of the whole movie was the recap of the 2000 presidential election debacle.

I rate "An Inconvenient Truth" at 4 Boos.

"March of the Penguins" was an amazing story. I don't think the best fiction writer could have made up the story about these goofy birds standing at the south pole balancing eggs on their feet.

I rate "March of the Penguins" at 3 Boos.
